From January to August, 2020, non-financial direct investment of Chinese enterprises in 54 participating countries of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) was RMB82.79 billion, up 35.2% (US$11.8 billion, up 31.5%) year-on-year. It took up 17.2% of the total investment of the same period, up 4.8 percentage points year-on-year. Major destinations include Singapore, Indonesia, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia, Thailand, Kazakhstan, the United Arab Emirates, and Myanmar.
In terms of international construction contracting, China signed 2,936 new construction contracts with 61 BRI participating countries. Their worth, RMB511.81 billion, decreased by 3.6% (US$72.95, down 6.2%) year-on-year, accounting for 54% of China’s total international construction contracts of the same period. The value of performed work was RMB322.87 billion, down 5.2% (US$46.02 billion, down 7.8%) year-on-year and accounting for 57.9% of China’s total amount over the same period.
