        The Statistics of Mainland-Hong Kong Trade and Economic Cooperation in January-May 2017

        I. Mainland-Hong Kong Trade

        The mainland-Hong Kong trade volume in January-May 2017 amounted to US$102.5 billion, with a decrease of 12.2% year on year, accounting for 6.6% of the mainland's total foreign trade volume. The mainland's export to Hong Kong was US$99.67 billion, down 8% year on year, and its import from Hong Kong was US$2.83 billion, down 66.0% year on year. Hong Kong is the 6th largest trade partner and the 4th largest export market of the mainland.

        In May 2017, the mainland-Hong Kong trade volume was US$21.72 billion, down 15.9% year on year and up 1.7% month on month. The mainland's export to Hong Kong was US$21.14 billion, down 9.4% year on year respectively and up 1.6% month on month; while its import from Hong Kong was US$570 million, down 77.1% year on year and holding the line month on month.

        II. Investment from Hong Kong

        In January-May 2017, a total of 5,083 Hong Kong-funded projects were approved in the mainland, down 1.3% year on year. The actually utilized Hong Kong capital was US$35.52 billion, up 10.3% year on year.

        By the end of May 2017, as many as 404,049 Hong Kong-invested projects had been approved in the mainland, and the actually utilized Hong Kong capital was US$950.31 billion, accounting for 52.2% of the total capital amount of foreign investment in the mainland.

        III. Investment in Hong Kong

        In January-March 2017, the non-financial direct investment in Hong Kong reached US$16.24 billion, accounting for 44.8% of the total US$34.59 billion. By the end of March 2017, the mainland's non-financial direct investment in Hong Kong had accumulated to US$508.4 billion (US$492.16 billion by the end of 2016), accounting for 52.5% of the total investment stock (US$954.97 billion, by the end of 2016 was US$934.43 billion).

        IV. Mainland-Hong Kong Economic Cooperation

        In January-May 2017, the mainland had 71 contractual projects in Hong Kong with a total value of US$2.12 billion and a completed turnover of US$2.19 billion. There were 48,816 laborers dispatched to Hong Kong. By the end of May 2017, the mainland's accumulated turnover in Hong Kong had reached US$64.46 billion.
