Governments around the world have implemented a wide range of protocols to control the spread of COVID-19 throughout their jurisdictions. The various intellectual property offices have recognised this is an unprecedented situation that may have an impact on the ability of right holders, applicants, opponents and their representatives to meet deadlines associated with their intellectual property rights.

The Serbian Government has declared the national state of emergency due to the COVID -19 crisis on March 15th 2020, („Official Gazette of the Republic of Serbia“, 29/2020) in the Republic of Serbia.
Government of the Republic of Serbia has adopted the Regulation on the Implementation of the Delay in the Administrative Procedure in the Period of the State of Emergency, (in force since March 24th ) („Official Gazette of the Republic of Serbia “, 41/2020 and 43/2020). The Regulation applies to all administrative procedures regarding the IP rights (registration, renewal and revocation of the granted IP rights) conducted by the Intellectual Property Office of the Republic of Serbia.
The Regulation prescribes that relevant parties involved in the administrative procedures cannot suffer of any damage due to the lack of their action in the course of the emergency. The legal terms that are about to expire in the course of emergency will be prolonged additional 30 days following the date of the end of the state of the emergency.
